چکیده

Low-Earth Orbit (LEO) satellite systems are intended to have an important part of the future generation of mobile telecommunication systems. They aim to provide diierent services to various populations of users. Each class of users requires a certain Quality of Service (QoS) and thus a given part of the shared channel resource. In this paper, LEO satellite systems based on an earth-xed cell concept are considered , and diierent channel allocation strategies with handover queuing are discussed. Two channel allocation techniques have been investigated : xed and dynamic channel allocation FCA and DCA. Moreover, in order to reduce the handover failure probability, we have assumed that handover attempts can be queued. An analytical model has been derived in the FCA case considering handover queuing and different categories of users. Implementation aspects for the DCA scheme have been discussed in comparison with FCA results.

A Dynamic Channel Assignment in Low Earth Orbit Mobile Satellite Systems

Several low earth orbit (LEO) satellite constellations have been proposed for mobile satellite systems (MSS’s). Due to nonstationary coverage regions of individual LEO satellites, the offered traffic load for each cell varies continuously. The variation of the traffic load essentially requires dynamic channel assignment. Furthermore, extremely frequent handover requests require specific techniq...

Adaptive Dynamic Channel Allocation Scheme for Spotbeam Handover in LEO Satellite Networks

Among satellite systems, low earth orbit (LEO) satellite system will make an important role in new fiture communication services, because of its less propagation delay, less power consumption in the user terminal and the satellites, and efficient spectrum utilization using smaller coverage area for each satellite than geostationa y (GEO) counterpart. However, a number of mobility problems that ...

Call Admissibility for Multiservice Traffics in Low-Earth Orbit (LEO) Satellite Networks*

In a LEO system, a user’s call may be handed over constantly from one satellite to another due to visibility changes caused by satellites’ movements. The resultant system performance will degrade if handover calls occur frequently but few are transferred successfully. This paper considered a multiservice LEO system that allows different bandwidth/channel allocations (so-called multirate) on-dem...

Adaptive Channel Reservation Scheme

Due to the high mobility of low earth orbit (LEO) satellites, there is a significant number of handover attempts in a LEO satellite mobile communication system, causing a high handover failure rate. This paper proposes an Adaptive Channel Reservation Scheme (ACRS) which gives an overall optimal success rate for both handover and new call initialisation. ACRS is able to adapt to the local traffi...
